"Jongen als straatventer met mand met koopwaren bij avond" (Boy as Street Vendor with a Basket of Goods at Night) is an etching by Dutch artist Carel Lodewijk Dake, created between 1867 and 1886. The artwork depicts a young boy standing in the shadows, holding a basket filled with goods. The light from a nearby lamp illuminates his face and the basket, creating a dramatic contrast of light and dark. This piece is housed in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and measures 228 mm by 173 mm. Dake's etching captures the stark realities of street life and the struggles of poverty, themes prevalent in 19th-century Dutch art. The artwork's realism and evocative use of light and shadow make it a poignant portrayal of the daily lives of the working class in the late 19th century.
