This photo, "Untitled (dance floor at ball)" by Robert Burian, captures a moment, or maybe it's the residue of a moment. It's small, just 9 x 6 cm, but it feels huge, expansive even, maybe because of the inverted contrasts of the image. Looking at the sea of grey that makes up the dancefloor, I see the ghost of a parquet pattern. The floor feels sticky, like a real dancefloor in the middle of a party, all spilt drinks and frantic movement. On the left, discarded shoes tell a story. Someone was really letting loose, you can feel the abandon. The figures dancing are like apparitions, pale and blurry, but I can sense their energy. This picture reminds me of Weegee’s raw street photography, capturing life’s fleeting, messy moments. Art’s not about perfection, it’s about feeling, about catching something real in the chaos.
