Editor: Today we’re looking at Lino Tagliapietra’s “Coronado,” a striking glass sculpture. The form itself is so elegant and simple, almost teardrop-like, but then you get caught in the complex patterns within the glass. What's your first impression of this work? Curator: Ah, Lino. This piece sings to me. It's not just glass, it's captured light. The colours swirl together, yet they retain this beautiful sense of order, don't you think? The way the lines converge and then just shoot upwards – it's like frozen energy. Have you seen Tagliapietra’s other pieces? They almost have this similar sense of captured energy. Editor: They really do! And I love that you said captured light. Is there something beyond just the form that attracts you to this piece? Curator: For me, it evokes a feeling of optimism. Look how the colours seem to rise – from earthier tones to vibrant yellows and oranges. And in his other works, sometimes, Tagliapietra likes to embed small murrine into the glass. Do you think this adds another layer to how people feel towards the glasswork? Editor: Definitely. It seems like he uses those colors and forms almost like a painter uses brushstrokes, building up something dynamic. This almost feels like a painting trapped in glass. I also love that each view yields another unexpected form in a very minimalist style. Curator: You've put it beautifully! It makes me think of water frozen just before breaking, how movement changes when it is constrained within form. It’s all very fleeting and it makes one look for different interpretations depending on how one's mood sits. What do you think? Editor: I love that analogy. It's not just looking at a sculpture, it's almost witnessing a transformation. It reminds me of the modernist goal to depict motion, a kind of 'dynamism', in static form. Thank you for pointing that out. Curator: My pleasure. I think sometimes we look so much *at* art that we forget to *feel* it. Now go forth and be transformed.
