This black and white photograph captures a painted window in the Slotkapel Egmond, and the way it's rendered, almost an abstraction, makes me think about art as a process of translating one thing into another. Looking at the texture, it feels almost as if the light itself is another material. The way the light filters through, creating these shimmering effects, the photograph translates light as a textural component, adding depth and weight to the image. There’s a particular panel near the top, a kind of rosette, where the details are so intricate it dissolves into pure pattern, an echo of something once tangible. The contrast makes it look like a quick gesture, but its full of detail. This piece reminds me of some of Gerhard Richter’s stained glass work, the way he plays with abstraction and light. Like Richter, it embraces the idea that art can be an ongoing experiment, inviting different interpretations with each glance.
