Eyvind Earle made this painting called Fire red and gold, and just looking at it, you know he enjoyed putting paint on a surface. I see how the texture is built up, like layers of memories, each stroke carefully laid down. It feels like he's not just depicting a tree, but really feeling it, you know? There's this one spot, where the trunk flares out, and there’s this explosion of colours – reds, greens, yellows – all mingling like a party. This detail seems to sum up the whole painting: the way Earle allows colours to clash and harmonize at the same time, it's all about the process. It reminds me of some of those early expressionists, like maybe Kandinsky, who were also trying to capture something beyond the surface of things. Ultimately, art is like a conversation, full of questions and never just one right answer.
