Marc Chagall made 'The Parade' with lithography, and it's so joyful and buoyant! It feels like the image came into being through a series of intuitive gestures, each one layering over the other. I'm thinking about Chagall and the making of this print, imagining him juggling all these motifs—the circus performers, the musicians, the animals—in his mind. The whole thing must have taken so much effort, a real balancing act to bring all these different elements together in such a harmonious way. The light washes of color – like the pale greens, blues, and oranges – create such a dreamy atmosphere. And it feels so tender, so heartfelt! When I look at the figure balancing on the horse, holding up a sphere, I get this sense of lightness, of defying gravity. It's like Chagall is saying, "Hey, we can rise above the everyday, we can find joy and beauty even in the most unexpected places!" I feel he communicates with other artists through time, like a conversation about joy and beauty.
