Andre Lanskoy made this ‘Abstract Composition’ with paint, and probably a brush or two. I like how the red sort of vibrates; it's like the whole canvas is buzzing with energy. The paint isn't trying to hide anything. You can see all the brushstrokes, all the layers. It’s a real record of his process, like a dance he had with the canvas. My eyes keep landing on the little turquoise stripes. They are like a little jolt against all that warmth and they kinda make my eyes sing. Lanskoy reminds me a bit of Kandinsky in the way he lets the colors do their thing, but with a more playful touch. It's like he's saying, "Hey, let's just see what happens if we throw all these shapes and colors together." And you know what? It totally works. Art doesn't have to be serious all the time. Sometimes, it can just be a joyful explosion of color and form.
