Curator: This is León Ferrari’s piece, "Hitler with Christian Dignitaries + Galtieri, Lambruschini and Viola with Nuncio Calabresi and Cardinal Aramburu" housed here at the Tate. The work’s dimensions are 420 by 297 millimeters. Editor: It’s immediately striking—a dense congregation of figures, rendered starkly. The limited tonal range creates a somber, almost oppressive atmosphere. Curator: Ferrari’s juxtaposition here is powerful. He assembles images of Hitler with religious figures, then adds Galtieri’s junta leadership with their own clergy, drawing parallels between oppressive regimes and religious institutions. Editor: Right. I'm thinking about the materials themselves. Beyond the image, it's the act of collage, of physically assembling these figures, that implicates a system of production and power. Curator: Indeed. The visual language is deliberately provocative, inviting the viewer to question the complicity of institutions in enabling totalitarianism. Editor: The physical manipulation speaks volumes about how power structures are constructed, piece by piece. Curator: Ferrari challenges us to decode the symbols and unravel the uncomfortable truths embedded within the image. Editor: Exactly, through his deliberate actions, Ferrari makes visible the insidious collaboration between power and faith.
