George Bunker made "Garden #2" in 1963, and it looks like a print, maybe a serigraph. The colors are so interesting, how he puts together this orange with the greens and reds - it's all about process. Looking at the surface, you can see how flat it is, no real depth, just layers of color bumping up against each other. There's this one particular green shape, kind of wedge-like, that really catches my eye. It's not exactly a leaf or anything specific, but it adds to the overall feeling of a garden, a place of growth and change. It reminds me a little of some of the early work by Alex Katz. Both artists share this interest in flattening forms and using color in unexpected ways. Ultimately, "Garden #2" is an invitation to see the world with fresh eyes, to appreciate the beauty of simple shapes and the magic of color.
