Here's a chance to see Grazia Varisco play with reflection and space in Quadri comunicanti out. I like how the four square mirrors, set at different angles, feel both solid and ephemeral. It’s like she's challenging our perception, asking what is real and what is just a reflection. What could it have been like to make this? To place each mirror, considering the angles, the refractions, the little illusions it creates? There’s a kind of quiet disruption here, the way the mirrors distort the space around them. And I am reminded that so much of painting is about this kind of disruption, offering a different way of seeing and experiencing. Like other painters, Varisco uses abstraction to encourage us to question, to see beyond the surface, and to think more deeply about our relationship to the world.
