Adoration of the kings

Editor: My immediate impression is that it’s rendered in a wonderfully muted palette; it has an ethereal quality. The monochrome scheme enhances the solemnity of the scene. All these figures seem caught in a reverie, each one steeped in their own internal ritual of encountering the divine. Curator: Precisely. Notice how Romano masterfully uses light and shadow. You see curiosity, awe, reverence all playing across their faces, really grounding the scene’s emotional impact for all viewers over the centuries.
