This is an arrangement of black and white photographs in an album, by an anonymous artist. The images are everyday and familiar, yet they are arranged in an intentional way. There’s something really tender about the hands that put this album together. The maker considered the dimensions of the album, and how to arrange the photographs within it. It's like a visual puzzle, with each image carefully placed to create a balanced composition. The corners of the photographs are neatly tucked into their black photo corners. I'm drawn to the different textures and tones within each photograph – from the softness of a young woman’s hair to the harshness of a motorcycle hurtling down a road. Each photograph is a portal into a different moment, a different mood. It reminds me of Gerhard Richter’s "Atlas," the way a collection of images can create a new narrative, a new way of seeing. It's not about perfection; it's about the beauty of the everyday, the stories we tell ourselves through images.
