Jose Davila made this artwork, Allure (rojo y amarillo), using found materials that might include stone, rope, and metal. The bright colours and taut lines create a striking image against the white walls of the gallery. I love the way Davila brings together such different elements. The smooth coolness of the stone is offset by the tension of the ropes and the industrial feel of the metal fixings. The work seems to be held in suspension, a precarious balancing act of colour and form. It reminds me of some of the early conceptual artists like Franz Erhard Walther who used fabric and unconventional materials to engage with space. There's something very satisfying about seeing these materials brought together in this way. It's as if the artist is inviting us to reconsider our relationship with everyday objects, to find beauty and meaning in the unexpected. It’s art as a process, as an ongoing conversation, rather than a fixed statement.
