Editor: Here we have Alan Green's, 1. Black Vertical on Black from the Tate collection. It's moody, almost oppressive in its darkness, yet there are subtle textures. What do you make of this piece? Curator: Ah, yes, Green. To me, it's about searching for light within the void. The layered blacks, the faint scratches – are they attempts to break through? Do they create a hidden depth? Editor: Hidden depth? I didn't think of that. I was just seeing a square of black. Curator: It's a meditative piece, isn't it? Green coaxes us to linger, to truly *see* the black, and perhaps find a reflection of our own inner landscapes within it. A dark mirror, if you will. Editor: A dark mirror... I like that. Curator: So, what do you see now? Editor: Maybe a little bit of myself. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure.
