Corneille made "De Visvangst" with oil paint, maybe sometime mid-century. Look at the way Corneille uses these black outlines, they remind me of someone like Matisse. The way he builds up this world from basic forms feels really modern, and rooted in the process of artmaking itself. There's a sort of grid structure that holds the whole composition together. Then there are these organic shapes, like the green and red dots on the left, that break up the geometry and add some playful tension. The surface is really active. You can see all the marks and gestures, nothing is hidden. It’s like the painting is revealing itself to you, layer by layer. It makes me think about other artists like Miro or even Picasso, who were also playing with form and abstraction. This is art as a conversation, an ongoing dialogue between artists across time. It’s not about finding one right answer, but about embracing the possibilities.
