This anonymous bowl sits here as a testament to process, to the slow build of intention meeting material. You know, the way the dark clay is built up, coil by coil, the marks scored into its surface forming triangles which then meet like tectonic plates. The walls of the bowl are thick, solid. You can feel the weight in your hands, and in your mind. The surface is rough, uneven, less concerned with perfection than with simply existing. Each line, each mark, is a record of a gesture. Not unlike a painting actually. It reminds me of the pottery of Lucie Rie, though maybe rougher, more primal, less refined. In that spirit the bowl transcends its function, becoming a vessel for ideas, a canvas for expression, a silent participant in an ongoing conversation about form, function, and the enduring power of art.
