Gian Maria Tosatti's installation, "Days of Silence - Devotions IX" is a dive into the poetics of decay, constructed through the assembly of found objects and evocative spaces. The palette here is muted, a symphony of grays and browns, reflecting a world in quiet suspension, each element contributing to the sense of process and time etched into the very fabric of the space. The visible textures and layering really get me. Look at how the peeling paint on the walls reveals layers of history, like the rings of a tree. This reminds me of some of Kurt Schwitters' Merzbau constructions, where discarded materials were assembled into sprawling, immersive environments. And then there’s the birdcage, hanging center stage, with that dim light inside. It’s such a charged symbol, suggesting confinement and hope, absence and presence. It’s like a tiny stage set, waiting for something to happen. Ultimately, Tosatti's work invites us to embrace ambiguity, to find beauty in the broken, and to recognize that art is not about answers, but about the questions we ask.
