This photograph, titled 'Rivier in Suriname', captures a river scene, with its edges softened by an anonymous hand. The high-contrast tones create a play between light and dark, kind of like a dance on the water's surface. I love how the photographer doesn't shy away from letting the trees become an almost impenetrable mass on the left, while guiding our eye toward the brightness ahead. It's not about showing everything. Instead, it invites us to imagine the unknown. If you look closely, the river has a real painterly quality. It looks as if it was made with broad strokes, creating this feeling of movement and depth. Even though it's a still image, I can feel the river flowing, hear the rustle of leaves. This approach reminds me of Alfred Stieglitz, who saw photography as a form of artistic expression, a conversation of light and shadow across time.
