This 'Apron' was made by Dong, and it now lives at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. It's clearly an object worn close to the body, which is kind of an amazing thought, isn’t it? I’m really drawn to the way the dark fabric, almost black, contrasts with those vibrant stripes of red, white, and blue, a simple but striking palette. The whole thing is a kind of dance between utility and adornment. I can imagine Dong carefully stitching each line, thinking about how the apron will both protect and express something about the wearer. That lower embroidered border is interesting. Each stitch is a deliberate act, a record of time spent and intention poured into the fabric. It makes me think about how everyday objects can become carriers of culture, stories, and personal meaning. Each mark tells a story.
