Ludwig Meidner sketched Hans Freimark, probably in charcoal or graphite, in 1915. The lines here are wiry and frantic, full of nervous energy. You can sense his hand moving quickly across the paper, trying to capture not just the likeness but something of the inner life of his subject. Look at the way he's rendered the hair, like a series of dark, jagged strokes, mimicking the way hair can stick up at odd angles. It's almost aggressive, isn't it? And the face—so lined and intense, with eyes that seem to bore right through you. There’s something reminiscent of Egon Schiele in the raw intensity of the gaze. The way the lines seem to vibrate with emotion. This isn't just a portrait. It's a psychological study, a glimpse into a soul laid bare.
