Dietmar Winkler made this poster for a concert at MIT in 1969. It’s all about these vibrant red lines, standing straight and tall, with a horizontal slash of green cutting across the middle. You can almost hear the trumpets and organ just by looking at it. What strikes me is the relationship between color and form. The red is so assertive, yet the overall feel is one of lightness, a sense of air moving through the lines. And that green line? It anchors the whole thing, gives it a grounded feeling amidst the visual rhythm. The interaction of the colors really creates the feeling of the piece. It reminds me of some of Bridget Riley’s work, especially the way she uses simple forms to create complex visual experiences. Both artists seem to be exploring how much you can do with just a few elements. It's a great reminder that art is an ongoing conversation.
