This is a ceramic teapot lid decorated with green and yellow squares, made by N.V. Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland. What I like about this piece is the way it embraces geometry. The little squares make me wonder about Mondrian, or even Hilma af Klint, although they worked with very different images. I can imagine the artist carefully applying each square, making sure they line up perfectly. It’s a slow, meditative process. I wonder what the overall shape might be like? These squares of green and yellow feel like a little secret, a playful detail that you only notice upon closer inspection. It's a dialogue, a conversation between artists across time and space. They embrace uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
