Geta Bratescu made this artwork, The Rule of the Circle, The Rule of the Game, with collage elements on graph paper. Isn’t it interesting how collage mimics the way our minds work? A bit here, a bit there... There’s a torn edge, there’s the grid, and then the circle drawn over the top. I love the materiality, the tension between the flatness of the surface and the illusion of depth. The contrast makes it so alive! Look at the top left, the way the patterned paper almost wants to float away from those intense blue stripes. It’s like a conversation between control and chance. This piece reminds me a little of Richard Tuttle; both artists are interested in the playful possibilities of simple forms and everyday materials. Art is an ongoing exchange of ideas, a conversation that stretches across time and space. It is not about fixed meanings, but about embracing ambiguity.
