Pierre Alechinsky made this print, called 'What is Happening to Him?' in 1983. The title itself feels like an invitation, right? Like we're stumbling into the middle of some kind of unfolding drama. Look at that furious energy of red marks slashing and scribbling across the surface. It's like the artist is thinking out loud with the ink, not afraid to let the messiness of the process show. The yellow background peeks through, giving the whole thing a kind of feverish glow. The title is echoed in the marks themselves. There's a real sense of urgency, like trying to capture a dream before it fades away. The way the ink splatters and bleeds, it feels like the image is still in the process of becoming. I can’t help but think of Joan Miró’s playful surrealism when I look at this piece. Both artists share that love of the spontaneous gesture, that willingness to let the subconscious take the lead. It reminds us that art doesn't always have to be about answers, it can be about embracing the questions.
