This painting by Remedios Varo, 'Gypsy and harlequin', is a trip, right? I love the way the artist sets up this surreal street scene, like a stage set. The walls are blushed with a kind of desert rose color, and they’re not quite parallel, are they? It's like the space is breathing, or maybe it’s just me projecting. I can imagine Remedios, brush in hand, teasing out these bizarre details. A broken down machine to the left, a string of objects like disembodied eyes… and those figures! Encased in a see-through bubble, I'm fascinated by the harlequin guy with a turkey. What's that about? It’s like she’s not just painting what she sees, but what she imagines, what she dreams. I get this feeling it’s a deeply personal language she's constructing, and we're invited to decode it. I think all painters are alchemists, mixing colors and ideas, turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.
