This is 'Versierde initiaal A' by Carel Adolph Lion Cachet, a drawing done with graphite on paper. I love seeing these kinds of process-based works. It’s like catching the artist in a moment of thought, not fully formed, but full of potential. You can see the ghost of erasures and corrections, little smudges and false starts. It’s fascinating to see how the artist experiments with different forms, trying out various iterations of the letter "A" within these ornate frames. Each one has its own character. The marks are tentative, light, almost like whispers on the page. But within that delicacy, there's a real strength in the composition. It reminds me a bit of some of Hilma af Klint's preparatory sketches, that same feeling of searching for the right form, the right symbol. Art isn’t about perfection. It's a conversation, a journey, and this drawing is a beautiful invitation to join in.
