Ludovic Alleaume made this stained glass panel of the Life of Christ for the Eglise Saint-Sulpice de Fougères, using colored glass and leading. The colors are muted, pinks and blues mostly, with a kind of dusty quality, which softens the whole scene. It’s all about how the light comes through, right? Check out the way Alleaume layers the glass to create depth and shadow. See that hand reaching out? The subtle variations in tone give it such a three-dimensional presence, like it could almost touch you. The way the folds of the fabric are rendered, they catch the light just so, making them appear almost sculptural. You might think of other stained glass artists, like Charles J. Connick, who were also playing with light and color in their own unique ways. Art's like this ongoing conversation, echoing and riffing off each other across time. It’s less about answers, more about keeping the questions alive.
