Curator: Julian Trevelyan's "Nimes" presents us with a compellingly stylized cityscape. I find its composition unexpectedly serene. Editor: Serene, perhaps, but also consciously constructed to evoke a sense of theatrical artificiality, a stage for urban life. Curator: I agree, the flattened perspective and limited palette emphasize form over representational accuracy, a deliberate choice on Trevelyan's part. The building almost looks like a backdrop. Given Trevelyan's deep engagement with Surrealism, and his understanding of how art can depict the city, the chariot and figures feel less like historical accuracy and more like actors on a stage set. Curator: Yet, there is a playful tension there. The building's weightiness is both structural and symbolic. A fascinating piece. Editor: Absolutely, it leaves one contemplating the relationship between perception, history, and image.
