Etienne Bosch made this landscape of the Gulf of Salerno, sometime between the late 19th and early 20th century, probably using etching. I like to imagine him outdoors with his plate, his tool, and acid, trying to capture that light and airy feeling of being there. You can see the details in the trees and the buildings on the cliffs, but the real magic is how light hits the sea. It's like he's trying to bottle a feeling, a memory of a perfect day. Bosch is working within a long tradition of landscape painters, but he's not just copying what he sees. He's adding his own spin, his own way of looking at the world. That's what makes art so cool—it's not just about the subject, it's about the artist's vision. It's about them showing us something new, something we might have missed if we were just standing there ourselves.
