Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan made this watercolor and ink drawing, Shooting Huntsman, with a sense of urgency and fluidity. The color palette is muted, almost monochromatic, dominated by grays, browns, and greens, which creates a hazy atmosphere, as though the scene is taking place in a dream. The drawing has an amazing sense of movement, each stroke capturing the hunter, dogs, and smoke of the gun firing. Look at how the ink bleeds slightly into the paper, adding depth and texture, and how Weisz-Kubínčan used thin washes of watercolor to create shadows and highlights. The quick, gestural lines around the hunter's figure gives a sense of energy, as if he's caught in the middle of the action. I love the way that form emerges through the accumulation of marks. This piece reminds me a little of George Grosz, another artist who captured the chaos and absurdity of the early 20th century. Ultimately, there's no right or wrong way to experience this drawing. It's about letting your imagination wander and seeing where it takes you.
