Ľudovít Čordák made this still life with apples out of oil paint, but we don’t know exactly when. I just love the way he wasn’t trying to be too perfect, you know? The paint in this piece is thick and juicy, especially when you look at the apples. There's one in the bottom left corner where you can see the brushstrokes. It’s almost like you can taste the fruit! The way he's captured the light, it almost feels like the apples are glowing. You can almost feel Čordák figuring it all out as he goes. I see a little bit of Cézanne here, especially in the way Čordák is playing with shapes. But it’s also doing its own thing. It's like Čordák is having a conversation with the old masters. The best art is always like that, just one big conversation, right?
