Editor: This is "Fuji in a Good Harvest" by Hokusai, part of his "One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji." It feels so serene, even with all the activity in the fields. What catches your eye in this piece? Curator: It's funny, isn't it? Serenity amidst labor. I'm drawn to the way Hokusai flattens the perspective, almost like a stage set. The rice terraces become these expressive lines leading our eye to Fuji lurking in the distance, a silent observer of the harvest. Doesn't it make you wonder about the relationship between the human and the monumental? Editor: It does, actually! I hadn't thought about it that way, but the flattened perspective really emphasizes that contrast. Thanks for pointing that out. Curator: My pleasure. Now, go forth and see the world anew!
