Rudolf Láng’s 1971 “Cock Fight III” is a stark and detailed white line etching on a crimson background. Two roosters are in the midst of combat, their claws outstretched and feathers flying. Láng was a Hungarian artist whose work is known for its precise linework and exploration of animal themes. This work, which measures 27.94 x 38.1 cm, exemplifies Láng’s ability to capture the raw energy and aggression of a cockfight with economy of form. The use of red and white in the work, along with the strong, angular lines, give the work a sense of dynamism and intensity.
