"Ludwig komt met slecht nieuws thuis" (Ludwig comes home with bad news) is an etching by Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki created in 1798. The image depicts a scene of domestic drama. Ludwig, dressed in a coat and hat, enters a room, his arms around a young boy. A woman stands to the right, while an older woman sits on a chair, appearing to be in distress. Chodowiecki's etching demonstrates a key genre of his work: depictions of everyday life and its emotional consequences. The work is an excellent example of the German Rococo period and is now part of the Rijksmuseum collection.
