"Cann" is a small silver drinking vessel created by Cary Dunn between 1784 and 1796. The silver cup features a rounded body, a flared lip, and a flared foot. The piece is considered an example of American silversmithing during the late 18th century. The simplicity of the design is a hallmark of the period, and the craftsmanship reflects the growing skills of American silversmiths in the years following the American Revolution. The cann, now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a reminder of the everyday objects that were made by American artisans during a pivotal time in American history.
