Curator: This is "Angle Theory Diagrams" by Stuart Davis. While undated, it's safe to say it comes from the core of his career. Editor: It feels like a secret language, doesn't it? Like a blueprint for a dream, all angles and mysterious scribbles. Curator: Davis was obsessed with systematizing visual space, and this seems like a personal Rosetta Stone. Editor: All those lines... are they trying to hold something together, or break it apart? Maybe that's the point, the tension itself. Curator: Possibly, but how do social forces shape artistic choices? Editor: Sometimes, I think, art makes the social forces, not the other way around. Anyway, I'm just musing. Fascinating piece.
