Kmetty János made this pastel drawing, "Interior", at some point in the 20th century, and right away, I’m drawn to the way the colors kinda vibrate, like they’re pushing against each other. The whole thing feels soft and chalky, almost like a dream. Look at the pitcher, it’s not quite white, but a hazy, ghostly presence. You can almost feel the graininess of the pastel on the paper, each stroke building up the image, not trying to hide the process. It’s honest, you know? Like, here’s the world, but seen through a layer of feeling. And that cabinet in the background, it's not just a thing, it's got this orange glow that makes it almost alive. It reminds me of Morandi, how he could make simple objects into these deep, emotional landscapes. It’s like János is saying, "Hey, look at the beauty in the everyday, the things we usually ignore." Art’s not about answers, it’s about how we see, and feel, and keep the conversation going.
