This fashion plate, number 121 in the Journal des Dames et des Modes series, was made in 1913 with some kind of printmaking technique. The colour scheme is really restrained, almost melancholic with soft blues and browns defining a moment of suspended movement. I love how the artist captures the texture of the fabrics with such minimal means. Look at the muted tones of the coats, so perfectly capturing the way light catches on the surface. The subtle variations in color suggest depth and volume, while the clean lines emphasize the cut and design of the garments. Then there's that touch of fur trim, rendered so delicately. It’s like a whisper of luxury. There’s an echo of early 20th century art movements in this piece – like the poster design of someone like Cassandre. The world is always changing, and images always echo other images in both conscious and unconscious ways.
