Giorgio Griffa made *Linee orizzontali* with just a few simple moves: horizontal lines painted in the top portion of a rectangular canvas. I imagine the canvas was raw and un-stretched when he painted it, laid out on the floor perhaps. It looks like the painting emerged through trial and error, with slight variations in pressure and color, each line its own unique entity. I sympathize with Griffa, wondering what it must have been like to make something so simple, yet so complex. The lines are not perfect but made with intention. There’s a certain beauty in the repetition and simplicity, which reminds me of Agnes Martin's work. But Griffa's got his own thing going on. It’s like he's having a conversation with other minimalists, but in his own language, proving that artists are in an ongoing exchange of ideas across time, inspiring one another's creativity.
