Zani Corrado painted this canvas, Senza Titolo, in an unknown year with oil. The palette is muted and the marks are laid down quickly, wet into wet, with a focus on shape and tone rather than detail. It has that lovely all-over feeling. Up close, you can see how Corrado uses the brushstrokes to build form. Notice the way he models the figure’s arm with soft gradations of tone and colour. And how about the absence of a face in the mirror? It makes the painting so ambiguous, almost existential. Are we looking at a reflection of someone, or some idea? The more I look, the more this painting reminds me of Gerhard Richter’s portraits – the same blurring of image and form, the same kind of restless questioning. The title, Senza Titolo, it's the perfect complement to this feeling. It all adds to that sense that art is a conversation, always open to new voices and new ideas.
