"Zittende Madonna en Johannes de Doper" is an anonymous etching from 1636-1637 depicting the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, with Saint John the Baptist kneeling at her feet. The etching is a reproduction of a painting, but the artist of the original is not known. The etching is currently located in the Rijksmuseum, and depicts a scene of tender interaction between the Virgin Mary and the infant Christ. The presence of Saint John the Baptist adds further devotional meaning to the composition, as he is traditionally depicted as the precursor to the arrival of Jesus Christ.
