Curatorial notes

This early photograph by Delizy captures the port of Cannes, with the tower rising in the background. The crane, a prominent feature, symbolizes human innovation. Such technological tools have ancient roots, echoing the mythical tale of Talos, the bronze giant crafted by Hephaestus to protect Crete. Like Talos, these cranes represent an extension of human power, designed to manipulate and control the environment. Yet, observe how the crane's form, reaching skyward, mirrors the architectural aspiration of the tower. Both structures, in their own way, strive to bridge the earthly and the celestial, revealing humanity's deep-seated desire to transcend limitations, and evoke a potent mixture of awe and ambition. This non-linear progression shows how images resurface, evolve, and take on new meanings through different times.
