This small, standing flat female figure was crafted by San Geronimo out of an unknown medium. It features a ruddy, earthy palette, and a somewhat flattened form that gives it a unique presence. What strikes me first is the figure’s structure. It’s an interplay of simple, almost geometric shapes. The cylindrical rolls of what seems to be headwear contrasts with the roundness of the face, earrings and body. This juxtaposition creates an intriguing visual rhythm, guiding your eye up and down the figure. The arms are held akimbo, adding to a sense of assertiveness and stability. The figure challenges conventional notions of beauty and form. It invites us to reconsider our assumptions about representation and to appreciate the power of simplicity. It reminds us that art is not just about replicating reality but about interpreting and reshaping it.
