Editor: Here we have a porcelain tureen with German flower decoration, made by the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. It's beautiful, and so ornate! What strikes you when you look at this piece? Curator: Well, first, I'm transported to a lavish banquet, can’t you just see it filled with steaming soup? It’s a bit over-the-top, really. That cherubic figure on top… it’s almost comical. What do you make of the floral designs? Editor: They seem very delicate, but almost…faded? Like memories pressed into the porcelain. Curator: Precisely! Meissen was all the rage, a status symbol, if you will. Owning one meant you were somebody. It's a conversation starter, wouldn't you say? Editor: Definitely! I’ll never look at porcelain the same way again. Curator: Me neither! It's like holding history in your hands, isn't it?
