These candlesticks were crafted by the Handicraft Guild of Minneapolis sometime between 1904 and 1918. Just imagine the artisan at work, carefully hammering and shaping the metal. The gentle curves of the base lead into a slender stem, almost like a flower reaching for the light. There is a satisfying balance between the base, stem and the cup at the top. You know, thinking about it, it seems that the artists were interested in creating objects that were not only functional, but also things of beauty and joy. The warm gold colour suggests a soft glow, the way candlelight flickers and dances in the dark. It reminds me of simpler times, when objects were cherished for their quality and craftsmanship, and handmade in a world before everything was mass-produced.
