Vrouw met een slang after 1635

This etching, titled "Vrouw met een slang" (Woman with a Snake) by Dutch artist Frederick Bloemaert, was created after 1635. Depicting a woman in a long robe, she is holding a staff while looking down at a snake coiling at her feet. The detailed cross-hatching of the lines, a defining characteristic of etching, creates a sense of depth and texture. The image is thought to be an allegorical representation of the temptation of Eve, with the snake symbolizing evil and the woman potentially representing Eve herself. It currently resides in the collection of the Rijksmuseum.
