Edwin Hale Lincoln made this photogravure, *Corallorrhiza striata- Striped Coral Root,* sometime during his career. What strikes me first is the light, almost ghostly quality, achieved through the photogravure process which allows for such beautiful tonal variation. Look at how the light catches the delicate forms of the flowers, each one distinct, yet part of a larger organic structure. The texture, the way the light is absorbed and reflected, adds a tactile dimension to the image. It makes me think about the way nature itself is a process, constantly evolving, decaying, and reforming. I’m reminded of Karl Blossfeldt’s plant studies and the way he too captured the intricate details of botanical forms. What both these artists share is an ability to invite us to pause and consider the beauty that can be found in the simplest of things, if you take a moment to really look. It’s about seeing beyond the surface and engaging with the underlying structure and rhythm of life.
