Christopher Wilmarth made this sculpture, "Tina Turner," out of glass, and the way the light moves through it makes it almost disappear. I can only imagine Wilmarth in his studio carefully layering these panes, probably struggling with gravity and balance, trying to capture some fleeting quality. There's something so delicate about how he’s composed these pale planes and squares. It’s like a whisper of a room, maybe a memory of one. The etched lines on the surface remind me of Cy Twombly’s scribbles – a similarly vulnerable and provisional gesture. Wilmarth's sculpture seems to be reaching out to other artists, riffing on their forms and ideas. It is like they are having a conversation across time and space, inspiring each other to see and feel in new ways. It is like an ode to light, space, and the power of suggestion. And isn't that what art is all about?
