Carl Moll made *Lusthaus* with oil on canvas, but when? Well, that's a mystery! What's not a mystery is how he’s put down these delicious greens and yellows. See how the brushstrokes are visible? It’s all about the process with Moll; you can almost feel him pushing the paint around. I love how the building is this striking ochre, almost glowing amongst the cool greens of the foliage. The paint isn’t too thick here, allowing the texture of the canvas to peek through, giving it a kind of vitality. Look at the way he’s rendered the leaves, short dabs of paint layered on top of one another. It reminds me of pointillism. You know, this piece reminds me of some paintings by Pissarro; it's like they’re having a conversation across time about light and form, about seeing and feeling. To me, this painting is not about a specific place, but more about the feeling of a bright day, captured in paint.
