Gary Moler made this Arabachi bowl, and I bet it was with his hands, given the lovely irregularities. I see in this artwork a real consideration of process, of the push and pull between the maker and the clay. It's like a dance, you know? I'm really drawn to the texture here, the almost sandy quality of the exterior. And look at the way the glaze drips down the side, like honey, solidifying the interaction with heat and gravity. It's not trying to be perfect, and that’s where its beauty lies, right? There's a kind of vulnerability in letting the material speak for itself. I think of Lucie Rie when I look at Moler’s bowl. These are artists who understand that art isn't just about the final product, but about the journey, the conversation between the artist and the material. It’s a reminder that art is always in flux, always open to interpretation.
